Raceland is a home rule city located in Greenup County, Kentucky in the Ohio River valley. As of the 2010 census , the population was 2,700. We are part of the Huntington-Ashland, Metropolitan area.
Raceland was incorporated in 1915 as Chinville. Town fathers wanted to honor "Raceland" which was a world class thoroughbred racing establishment located in Chinville from 1924 to 1929. They decided to legally change the town's name where they successfully petitioned the Kentucky Court System. Chinville was legally changed to the City of Raceland, making it the only incorporated city in the world named Raceland.
A rail car manufacturing company owned by Chessie System opened in 1929, the same year the Raceland Race Track closed. Thus, our slogan was born.
